Certificate Course in Onco-care Giving
A unique program (4 months course) - for training the cancer survivors to become cancer caregivers

The Program is Envisaged by Sanjeevani and delivered in collaboration with Centre of Lifelong Learning of Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Tata Memorial Centre.

The course curriculum is designed to focus on empathetic, emotive, nutritional, paramedical, physio-therapeutic as well as spiritual aspects of oncological care.

The express intent of the Course is to cultivate a pool of Oncology caregivers to function as aides to Cancer patients. This is a 4 month course and candidates successfully completing the certification will receive references or will be placed via organizations working with Cancer patients.

Project Details

The course is structured to include 45 days of theory classes in a College Of Social Work and 65 days of field training in the local Reginal Cancer centre.

In Mumbai, the theory classes are held in Tata Institute of Social Sciences and field training at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. The Certificate is jointly awarded by Centre For Lifelong Learning, Tata Memorial Hospital and Sanjeevani Life Beyond Cancer.

TISS has offered to accord the status of Knowledge Partner to Sanjeevani Life Beyond Cancer with authority to replicate the course at other centers.

Overall Objective of the Project:

This unique course has twin objectives:
  1. Skill development of cancer victors resulting in rehabilitation; and also
  2. Produce a pool of professionally trained and certified care givers for cancer patients.

Location of the project:

After successful completion of 2 batches in Mumbai, Sanjeevani and TISS plan to roll out this course at other centre’s in collaboration with the Local RCC and College of Social Work.

The first out-station course is being rolled out in Ahmadabad (TISS / IIPH / GCRI) in July 2017.

The program is funded through a grant received from M/s Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
