Dr. Rama is an independent cancer advocate, Health educator-Counsellor and Massage Therapist. She is presently a Consultant in KEM Hospital Research Centre, Mentor and Faculty at Sanjeevani Life Beyond Cancer. Rama’s own tryst with breast cancer made her a Breast Cancer Advocate. She was the Director of Counseling and Outreach Services and Trustee in Prashanti Cancer Care Mission and is a, Advisor Advocacy and Rehabilitation at the NAG Foundation. She also represented India at the Breast Cancer Global Advocacy Summit and Breast Health Global Initiative in Hungary (2007) and was an invited speaker at the American Cancer Society, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and American Society of Breast Diseases (2007). She has presented papers at various conferences across the world like Reach to Recovery International in Australia and Czech and the World Conference on Breast Cancer Foundation Canada. Rama has served as Project Manager at KEM Hospital Research Center, Pune in Women’s and Adolescent health. In this capacity, she assessed community needs, planned, created and provided appropriate interventions in prevention education, counselling and healthcare. She has run and managed Women’s Health Initiatives in Gender and Reproductive Health funded by Tata’s, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, UNFPA, Adolescent Health funded by UNICEF and European Union with the aim is to improve quality of life, by enabling knowledge skills through information and skill building in health, reproductive and other rights and capacity building with specific reference to girls and women. She has received project funding for the Tobacco Free Initiative by WHO and Community Breast Health and Breast Cancer funded by the Susan G Komen Foundation. She is a certified Master Trainer in Integrated Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) in Communication and Counseling from the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. Rama has received the Bajaj Allianz Most Inspirational Woman in Health Care Award and the prestigious APCSOT fellowship award from the Union for International Cancer Control, the Global Cancer Control, Geneva. Rama has a master’s degree in English literature and art history as well as PhD in Art History. She lives in Pune.
